Interested in becoming a midwife?
Information Session (Sept. 07, Mar 08)

Student Guidelines:

  1. All students must be enrolled and actively studying at a midwifery college or university program.
  2. Any student must have completed the equivalent of one year of midwifery education before they will be considered for practicum.
  3. The students shall make an attempt to ensure they are covered by malpractice insurance through their educational institution or other means.
  4. The Student must provide school documentation and guidelines. Birth Partnership Midwives can offer students experience in antepartum and postpartum visits in the clinic and at home, attendance at births at home, hospital and birth centre, well woman care and breastfeeding support.
  5. The Student will become familiar with the roles of each midwife/student at a birth, in clinic and standard operation practices within Birth Partnership Midwives.
  6. The Student will clearly outline their availability and the timeline they are willing to commit to their practicum. Each student shall outline their needs and goals and Birth Partnership Midwives will work to assist the student to facilitate these goals, including the ability to meet the students needs. An agreed length of time will be set, with the possibility of extension, if needed or desired.
  7. The student shall provide their own pager or cell phone.
  8. The student shall have CPR and NRP certification.
  9. The student is not paid for their time, food, equipment or any other expenses. Further, each student shall have reliable transportation available at all times.
  10. The client has the final word as to what, if any, involvement the student may have in their care.
  11. The midwives reserve the right to terminate the relationship at any time if it is felt that there is not a good fit between the midwife/midwives and/or the clients.
